A Toloka alternative for UK human judgement

A Toloka alternative depends on whether you need a dataset or a small human judgement. Toloka describes annotation, training data and evaluation workflows for AI teams [1], [2]. PennyForYours offers short reactions from UK adults with a signed receipt for each answer. Its developer access is sandbox-only today. Last checked: 7 October 2026.

Toloka alternative: data work or judgement?

The word ‘human’ appears in both offers, but the jobs and outputs differ. Compare the work item before comparing a platform.

A receipt and a label-quality verdict answer different audit questions. One records checks on a particular PennyForYours response without naming the person. The other assesses whether a dataset label meets project criteria. Neither should be described as proving that every output is correct or uniquely human.

Choose by task volume and evidence

Choose Toloka for a data pipeline

Toloka is the stronger candidate for collecting or annotating many items under defined quality rules [1], [2]. A team evaluating an image model may need thousands of labels, agreement checks and an export into a training pipeline. That work does not fit our one-question quick take. Read Toloka's current project and quality documentation before setting a budget.

Choose PennyForYours for a small judgement call

An AI product team may have two short replies to the same customer question and want to know which sounds clearer to UK adults. Ask people to choose and explain why. The result can show an ambiguous sentence or a preference worth investigating. It cannot provide a benchmark dataset, a specialist panel or a statistically representative UK result.

The API sandbox is useful for checking how a request, result and receipt would fit a workflow. Its members are synthetic and marked as such. Do not treat a sandbox response as evidence that a real person performed an evaluation. See human evaluation of LLM output for a use case that fits the current quick-take shape.

Official Toloka sources checked 7 October 2026: [1] AI training and evaluation data; [2] quality-control documentation. Toloka's published capabilities are described at product level; no specific project price, volume promise or worker geography is inferred here.

A small UK evaluation with receipts

For a live quick take, an asker writes one short question and shows text or one image. Members choose between two or three options, rate from 1 to 5, or give a first impression. The result contains the choice split or average, each reason, a short unnamed summary and a signed receipt per answer. The current pool is 5 to 50 verified UK adults, without specialist targeting.

Our receipt is an ES256-signed record that can be checked against a public key set. It lists the checks passed but never identifies the person. The trust guide explains why no system can honestly promise zero AI assistance or fraud. A receipt helps with provenance; it does not certify that the judgement is correct.

Developer keys are available by invitation for a sandbox only. Sandbox answers come from synthetic test members. At paid launch, asking starts from 30p an answer plus 50p a question (launch example); asking is free during early access. We aim for first live answers within about 15 minutes in UK daytime, but early access may be slower.

How PennyForYours works in detail

Test a quick-take request in the sandbox

Take one evaluation item that a general UK adult can judge without a long brief. Write a neutral question, make two or three clear options and decide what you would do with each result. The API guide shows the current request and response pattern; the developer hub explains sandbox access.

Request a sandbox key by invitation before designing a live integration. For annotation projects, assess Toloka's own methods instead. MTurk replacements map other task types, and developer examples show the boundary of ours. PennyForYours is built in the UK; read who runs it. For a current API limit, a real person replies.

Your questions, answered

All questions by topic

What is Toloka used for?

Toloka describes AI training and evaluation data, including annotation and professional human feedback, on its official site [1]. Its platform documentation sets out quality criteria and reviewer paths for labels [2]. Check its current offer against the data format, volume and review method your project needs.

Can I use a UK pool for small judgements instead of Toloka?

PennyForYours is built in the UK and uses UK adults for small quick-take judgements. It is a different service only for that narrow task, not a replacement for data collection or annotation at scale. The current group cannot be targeted by profession or region.

Can I prove a human made each judgement?

Our signed receipt records the checks an answer passed and can be verified without identifying the member. It is useful provenance, but no one can honestly promise zero AI assistance or fraud. Review the reasons, set a clear task and use a second method when a decision needs stronger evidence.

Can I run a large annotation job here?

No. PennyForYours currently supports one short question to 5 to 50 UK adults. It does not offer dataset labelling, bulk item queues or a specialist annotation team. Toloka's published product is designed around those wider AI data needs [1].

Is the PennyForYours API live?

The REST API and MCP server are in an invitation-only sandbox. Sandbox answers are generated by synthetic test members and marked as such; they are not live human responses. Only quick takes are supported. Production availability and paid use have no announced date.

What would a live quick take cost?

Asking is free during early access. At paid launch, the quick-take example starts from 30p an answer plus 50p a question. The amount covers a small subjective question, not a bulk annotation pipeline. A live quote will be shown before any paid question is posted.
