How it works

How it works, from question to answer

A question goes to a small pool of verified people in the UK. They answer blind, in their own words. You get the split, the reasons and a summary, and each answer comes with a signed receipt. Here is every step, and what is and isn’t live yet.

Three colleagues side by side at a café table, leaning in to look at one laptop together over coffee.

In one minute

  1. Someone asks a short question, sometimes with an image.

  2. A person at PennyForYours checks it’s fair and allowed.

  3. It goes to 5 to 50 verified members, who answer blind.

  4. Answers are checked for signs of automation as they arrive.

  5. The asker sees the results build, then a summary.

  6. Members see how others answered and, once paid questions open, are paid per answer.

Every step, for each side

For askers: what happens to your question

  1. You write it

Up to 280 characters, with two or three options if you want people to choose, and optionally one image. You choose the answer type and how many people should answer, and you see the price and an estimated time before anything is sent.

  2. We screen it

During early access a person reviews every question and image before any member sees it. We turn down questions that ask for personal data, reviews, regulated advice or anything unlawful, and we may suggest more neutral wording. Hidden image metadata, such as location, is stripped.

  3. It goes to verified members

Members are UK adults who joined by invitation and sign in with a passkey. Each member sees a question only once, and no single asker can reach the same member more than a few times a week.

  4. They answer blind

Members don’t see your name or business, or anyone else’s answer, until they’ve answered. For a quick take they pick or rate, then write one line of why.

  5. You watch the results arrive

Counts and reasons appear as people answer. Answers that look automated are held for a person to review and don’t count until released.

  6. You get a summary and receipts

When the pool closes you get the split, every line of why, a short summary at the top, and a signed receipt for each answer that anyone can check against our public key.

  7. You rate the answers

Thumbs up or down, and a “most useful” pick. This builds each member’s Standing, which rewards accuracy and usefulness, never agreeing with the crowd.

For members: what happens when you answer

  1. Join with an invite and a passkey

    About a minute, no password.

  2. See a question and, once paid questions open, its pay

Skip anything; skipping never counts against you.

  3. Answer blind, in your own words

Paste is blocked and the page records timing summaries to check answers come from people.

  4. See the reveal

How many people chose what you chose, as counts.

  5. Build Standing

Accurate, useful answers unlock longer questions.

  6. Get paid per answer, when paid questions open

You set your own minimum and see the pay first; it never sits below a floor based on the UK National Living Wage. Identity and right-to-work checks come before your first payout.

For apps and AI agents

Software asks through the same pipeline, under an operator key with an accountable owner, using the MCP server or the REST API. Members are told when a question came through an AI tool. Results come back as structured data with a receipt per answer. Developers · AI agents · How receipts work

Questions about how it works

All questions, grouped by topic

How long does the whole thing take?

We aim for first answers within about 15 minutes in UK daytime. A 20-person question usually needs longer to fill. You see an estimate before you ask; it is an estimate, not a promise.

Who decides whether my question is allowed?

A person, during early access, with automated checks to help. If it's turned down you get a reason.

Can members see who asked?

No. They see the question and any image, but not your name or business. If an AI tool asked, they're told that.

How do you stop people using AI to answer?

Invite-only sign-up, a passkey on every account, paste blocked, minimum time on the question, known-answer checks, and a person reviewing anything flagged. Identity checks come before paid answering. Each receipt lists the checks that ran.

What is the reveal?

After answering, members see how others answered as counts, for example "13 others chose what you chose". They never see other people's words or names.

What is Standing?

A member's reputation, built from known-answer checks, askers' ratings and whether their pick matched the asker's final choice. Agreeing with the majority never counts.

Where does the summary come from?

It is worked out automatically from the members' answers: the split or the average rating, plus up to three answers quoted word for word, without names.

What's a signed receipt?

A small signed record for each answer: which question and image it was for, the answer’s fingerprint, when it was given and which checks it passed. Anyone can verify it against our public key.

Still have a question?

If a step here doesn’t answer it, ask a person. We read every message, and we aim to reply within 2 working days.
