Test your Amazon main image with real people

Test an Amazon main image before changing a live listing. The KettleCove example compares three views of the same coffee press, asking which one makes the product easiest to understand at a glance. Verified UK adults can give a reason for their pick, but they are not confirmed Amazon shoppers. We aim for first answers in about 15 minutes in UK daytime; replies may take longer for now. PennyForYours is not affiliated with Amazon.

We review requests by hand.

What to ask about your Amazon main image

Keep the product size and background as similar as you can across the options. In this example the test collage is for feedback, not an image to upload as a listing main image.

  • Example: Which KettleCove coffee-press view is clearest: A front, B three-quarter or C side?
  • Which view makes the size and handle easiest to understand?
  • What would you expect to receive from this photograph?

A clarity question is easier to act on than a request to predict a click from a mock search result.

What the KettleCove image result suggests

Illustrative KettleCove example: B gets 10 of 20 picks, A six and C four. People say the three-quarter angle makes the handle and cup easier to see. That is a useful direction for a clearer photograph, not a predicted Amazon click rate. If the pictured cup is only a prop and not included with the press, remove it from any proposed main image. Amazon’s published main-image guidance says the image must show the product being sold without misleading extras.

Example results: A 6, B 10, C 4, with reasons such as “B shows scale” and “I see the handle”
The reasons tell you what your Amazon main image needs to show. Fictional example.

How to compare three product views

Make a comparison image containing two or three product views at a similar scale. Ask one neutral question and read the reasons from the mixed UK pool. Then prepare the chosen view as a separate, compliant listing file; the side-by-side test collage itself is not a main image. Amazon’s public guidance covers a white background, product coverage and unwanted overlays. Check current category rules before uploading.

How PennyForYours works

What outside feedback cannot prove about clicks

A seller can identify a coffee press from a familiar angle; someone seeing it for the first time may need the handle or scale to be obvious. Ask what the image makes them expect to receive. That can catch a misleading prop before the listing goes live, though the result will not tell you how Amazon visitors will behave. See how answers are checked.

Honest limit: Members do not see your actual Amazon search placement and are not verified buyers of your category. PennyForYours has no Amazon affiliation. A preference result does not certify compliance with Seller Central image rules or predict listing clicks.

What it costs

Asking is free during early access, by invitation. At paid launch a quick take starts from 30p an answer plus 50p a question (launch example); 20 quick takes would come to about £6.50. You see the quote before asking.

Your questions, answered

All questions by topic

What makes a good Amazon main image?

A useful main image lets a person recognise the product and its important physical details at small size. Marketplace requirements also apply, so check the current official Seller Central guidance before uploading. A popular image in this test may still need editing for compliance.

What are Amazon’s main image requirements?

Amazon’s public seller guidance says the main image should accurately show the product being sold on a white background, with the product filling at least 85% of the frame. It rules out added text, logos or watermarks over the image and props not included with the product. Check current category rules before uploading (checked 7 October 2026). This opinion test does not certify compliance.

How do I test my Amazon main image?

Compare two or three views at the same scale and ask which makes the product clearest. Read the reasons behind each pick. For KettleCove, people favour the view that shows the handle, but the cup needs a separate compliance check if it is not sold with the press. Save the chosen view as its own image, then check Seller Central before changing the listing.

Can I test lifestyle shots?

You can get an opinion on any image you are allowed to show to members. That does not mean a lifestyle shot is permitted as your marketplace main image. Check official category rules and consider testing it as a secondary listing image instead.

Can I use answers as Amazon reviews?

No. Members are giving private opinions for your own image decision, not reviewing a purchased product. Do not publish their words as customer reviews or suggest that this pool represents Amazon shoppers.

How much does this test cost?

The image comparison is free to ask during early access, by invitation. At the example paid-launch rate, 20 opinions would be about £6.50 (30p each plus 50p for the question). Check the quote before you post. You would still need to prepare a compliant individual image for the listing; this fee covers opinions only.
