Questions people ask

Grouped by topic. If your question isn’t here, ask a person through the contact page: we aim to reply within 2 working days.

Early access

What is early access?

The first stage of PennyForYours, while we test the service with a small, invited community. Asking and answering are free, nothing is paid or charged, and joining is by invitation.

Is it free?

Yes, during early access. Asking and answering are both free while we build our founding community. When paid questions open, askers pay per answer and see the price before they ask, and joining as a member stays free.

How do I get an invitation?

Joining is by personal invitation during early access, so we can look after a small group properly. To ask questions, request early access on a short form: tell us what you would like real people's reactions to. To answer questions, apply on the answerer form. A person reviews every request and emails an invite code. Early access is free on both sides.

How do I apply to answer questions?

Use the apply to answer form: your name, email, the topics you would enjoy and any expertise. You must be 18 or over and live in the UK. A person reviews every application and emails an invite code; joining then takes about a minute, with a passkey and no password. It is free to join, and early access is unpaid.

What's a founding member?

One of the first members to join. Founding members get a founding member badge, hear first when paid questions open and help shape how the service works.

What works today, and what's coming?

Live today: asking and answering quick takes (pick one, rate 1 to 5, or a first impression) on text, an image or a short sound clip, the question board, the reveal, Standing, signed receipts and the developer sandbox. Planned: longer answer types, choosing who answers, paid questions, identity checks and team accounts.

When will PennyForYours open to everyone?

We haven't set a date. We'll open once identity checks are in place and we're confident the answers are what we say they are.

Asking

What can I ask?

Anything that's a fair question for a stranger to answer in about a minute: which option they prefer, how something comes across, or their first impression of a page, name, design or message.

What can't I ask?

Anything asking for personal data, targeting a real person, asking for reviews, needing regulated advice, or that's sexual, violent, hateful or unlawful. Images must be yours to share, and anyone shown must have agreed.

Can I ask for advice, like legal or plumbing help?

No. PennyForYours is for real people's reactions to things you've made or are deciding on. For legal, medical, financial or trade advice, speak to a qualified professional. Questions asking for personal advice are turned away at review.

How fast are answers?

We aim for first answers within about 15 minutes in UK daytime, and you can watch them come in. During early access, with a small group of members, it can take longer. You will always see an estimate before you ask. It is an estimate, not a promise.

Who answers my questions?

Adults in the UK, 18 or over, who join by personal invitation during early access and sign in with a passkey on their own device. They answer blind: they don't see your name or business, or anyone else's answer first. Answers must be their own words; accounts found using AI tools or automation are removed after a human review. Members choose which questions to answer from a board of open questions, so the first people to pick yours answer it; we do not assign questions to people.

How many people should I ask?

Five gives a quick steer, 20 is a sensible default, and up to 50 when the decision matters.

Can I choose who answers?

Not yet. Choosing by age, region or interests is planned. Today your question goes on the question board of verified UK adults, and the first members to pick it answer it.

What do I get back?

The split or average, a line of why from each person, a short summary and a signed receipt for each answer.

Can I use the answers as reviews?

No. They're opinions for your own decisions. Presenting them as reviews or testimonials isn't allowed, and fake reviews are unlawful in the UK.

Answering

Who can join to answer?

Adults in the UK, 18 or over. During early access you need an invitation.

What is a passkey?

A key your phone or computer creates for PennyForYours only, unlocked with your fingerprint, face or screen lock. The fingerprint or face never leaves your device, it can't be phished and there's no password to leak.

Do I have to answer every question?

No. Pick the questions you want from your board and skip the rest; skipping never counts against you.

How do I get questions to answer?

You choose them. Open questions appear on your question board with the kind of answer, the pay for that answer, about how long it takes, its topics and how many places are left. Pick any you like, filter by pay, time or topic, and hide topics you never want to see. Places go to whoever picks first, and you hold one question at a time. Skipping or ignoring a question costs you nothing. If you would rather not browse, you can ask for the next one that fits.

Can I use AI tools to write my answers?

No. Answers must be your own. Using AI tools, chatbots or automation to write or submit answers is not allowed. Accounts found doing so, now or later, are removed after a human review, and you can appeal the decision. Answers that break this rule are not paid; genuine answers are.

What is Standing?

Your reputation for accurate, useful answers, worked out from known-answer checks, askers' ratings and whether your pick matched the asker's final choice. Agreeing with the majority never counts.

What is the reveal?

After you answer, you see how others answered as counts, never their words or names.

What if my answer is held by mistake?

A person reviews every held answer and tells you the outcome. You can explain your side and appeal from the app; a person replies within 5 working days.

Can experts charge more?

Yes, once the expert lane opens. Verified experts, whose credentials we check, set their own rates, and askers see the rate before they ask. Their answers are opinions from verified professionals, not regulated advice.

Pay and pricing

When does paid answering start?

We have not set a date yet, and nothing is paid during early access. Founding members will hear first. When paid questions open you are paid per answer, and you see what each question pays before you choose it: a 30-second quick take starts at about 20p as a launch example, and longer answers and expert questions pay more. How many questions you get depends on demand, and early on there may be few.

Are early-access answers paid?

No. During early access, answering is unpaid and entirely optional, and nothing you do earns points, prizes or anything else with a cash value. Questions come from us and from invited testers trying the service, not from businesses buying answers. Answering now does not earn pay later, and there is no promise of paid work.

How do payouts work?

Nothing is paid during early access. When paid questions open, askers pay through Stripe, a regulated payment provider, which holds the money and pays it out to you; PennyForYours charges a platform fee. The payment provider checks your identity before your first payout. The full payment terms will be in the updated terms you accept before paid questions open. If your account closes, you still receive what you earned for genuine answers.

How is member pay set?

You choose which questions to answer and set your own minimum price per answer, and every question shows what it pays before you choose it. When paid questions open, askers pay through Stripe, a regulated payment provider, which holds the money and pays it out to members, and PennyForYours charges a platform fee.

Do I pay tax on what I earn?

Pay from answering is taxable income. Most people have a £1,000 tax-free trading allowance each tax year, shared across all their side income; if your total is more than £1,000 you need to tell HMRC. We can't give personal tax advice, so check GOV.UK's guidance on income from online platforms.

Do I have to pay to join?

No. Joining as a member to answer questions is free.

Will I be paid in crypto?

No. Members will be paid in pounds to a UK bank account. There's no token.

How much will asking cost?

Nothing during early access. When paid questions open you pay per answer, by answer type: a quick take (pick or rate, plus one line of why) is from 30p a person, short answers and considered feedback cost more, and verified experts show their rate first. There is also a 50p fee per question for screening and the summary. For example, 20 quick takes come to about £6.50. These are launch examples.

Checks and trust

How are people verified?

During early access, members join by invitation and sign in with a passkey on their own device. A person approves every question and image before anyone answers it. While members answer, paste is blocked, our server checks the timings against its own clock, and signs of automation, chatbot wording, near-copies of other answers or more answers than a person could give hold an answer for a person to review. Known-answer questions are mixed in. Identity and liveness checks with a certified provider come before paid answering. That is what we mean when we say every answer comes from a verified person. We do not store biometrics.

Can you promise no answer is AI-written?

No one honestly can. We make it slow and risky to fake, hold anything suspicious for a person, remove accounts that break the rule and show on each answer's receipt which checks it passed.

What is a signed receipt?

A small signed record for each answer showing which question and image it was for, a fingerprint of the answer, when it was given and which checks it passed. Anyone can verify it against our public key.

Who makes decisions about accounts?

A person. Software can hold an answer for checking; only a person can reject an answer or remove an account, with a reason and a route to appeal.

Who reviews questions?

A person reviews every question and image before any member sees it. During early access that is David Bryan, who runs PennyForYours.

Privacy and safety

Is my question confidential?

Yes. Questions are shown only to the people answering them, without your name or business, and there is no public feed of questions. Members see them on their own screens, so don't upload anything you couldn't show to a stranger yet.

What do you record while I answer?

Timing and typing-rhythm summaries, paste attempts, tab switches and signs that software is driving the browser, to check answers come from people. Never which keys you pressed, your screen, camera, microphone or location, or where your pointer goes.

Can askers see who I am?

No. They see your answers under a pseudonym that's different for every asker, never your name or email.

Where is my data stored?

Our database and server code are in London. Uploaded images are stored by our host, Netlify, in the US (Ohio) under the UK's data bridge with the US, because it doesn't yet offer UK storage for files.

Do you train AI on my data?

No. We don't train AI models on your answers, questions or anything else about you, and no outside AI provider receives your data. Every automated check runs on software inside PennyForYours.

Do you sell data or use analytics cookies?

We don't sell personal data or show adverts. Optional Google Analytics cookies run on public information pages only after you accept them.

How do I get a copy of my data or delete my account?

Signed in, use Settings. Or use the help and support form. We reply within one month and delete within 30 days of a confirmed request.

How do I report something harmful?

Use the report form; you don't need an account. A person reviews every report, and we remove illegal content as soon as we're aware of it.

Is PennyForYours for children?

No. PennyForYours is for adults only. Everyone must be 18 or over, and accounts belonging to anyone under 18 are closed.

Businesses

Who owns the answers?

Under the terms, you can use the answers you receive for your own decisions, but not as reviews or testimonials, and what you upload must be yours to share. Separate business terms on ownership and confidentiality are planned before paid questions open.

Can my team share an account?

Not yet. Team accounts are planned.

Can I get an invoice?

There's nothing to pay during early access. Billing for business askers will be set out before paid questions open.

Is this market research?

It's quick, qualitative feedback from verified people, not a representative survey: you can't yet choose who answers.

Can agencies use it for clients?

Yes. Questions go out without your name or your client's, and you can share results with your client. Team accounts and client folders are planned.

Developers and AI tools

Can my app or AI tool ask real people?

Yes, in a sandbox today. Developers can ask through a REST API and an MCP server, and each answer comes with a signed receipt. The sandbox uses test members and nothing is charged. Keys are issued by invitation during early access. See the Developers page for details.

Can I use it with Claude?

Yes. Add the MCP server in Claude Code with one command, or as a custom connector in Claude Desktop or claude.ai with your key as a request header.

Can I use it with ChatGPT?

Not through ChatGPT's connector screen yet, because it offers OAuth or no sign-in and can't send our API key. A Custom GPT Action over our REST API works, as do the OpenAI Responses API and Agents SDK.

Does it work with Cursor or VS Code?

Yes, as a remote MCP server with your key in a header.

Can an AI agent use it on its own?

Yes, under an operator key held by an accountable person or organisation. There's no anonymous access, and members are told when an AI tool asked.

Do sandbox answers come from real people?

No. Synthetic test members answer, and every sandbox answer and receipt is marked as such. Sandbox receipts never verify as proof of a person.

Can I ask my own AI assistant about PennyForYours?

Yes. Point it at pennyforyours.com/llms.txt, a plain summary of the service written for AI tools and generated from the same source as this site.

What is a human-in-the-loop MCP server?

It gives an AI assistant tools to pause, send a judgement question and read the result before its operator decides what to do. PennyForYours currently offers an invitation-only sandbox with synthetic answers. Live human judgements are planned, and a sandbox receipt is not proof that a person answered.

About us

Who runs PennyForYours?

David Bryan, in the UK, as a sole trader while the business is being set up. No company has been formed yet.

How do I contact a person?

Use the help and support form on the contact page. It works signed in or out, and a real person reads every message. We aim to reply within 2 working days.

Is PennyForYours looking for investment?

There's an investors page to register interest. It is not an offer or invitation to invest.
